A galactic cloud computing platform (with the support of 18 companies and research organizations!) has just been launched in Europe with the goal of finding the so-called “Eye of God”, otherwise known to the scientific community as the “Higgs Boson”. This breakthrough initiative is also utilizing its widespread support to advance knowledge in the biomedical research of genomic analysis and natural disasters. Neelie Kroes, VP of the European Commission, outlined the initiatives of the “Science Cloud” in his effort to ignite the European cloud computing market by conquering major issues shared by both academia and industry. Further, this Science Cloud allows supporting businesses to join in on the benefits of this IT revolution. The list of supporting companies is impressive in its number of big name industry leaders including Atos, Capgemini, Interoute, SAP and Telefonica. From the microscopic to the colossal, the gene to the universe, cloud computing is stimulating the economy, increasing our knowledge of our very own DNA and even our vast galaxy, and still, the possibilities are endless… Give us your predictions! What is the next big thing the cloud has in store?
